400 Houses for 400 Families in Carey Islands.

MIC President Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had informed him that Sime Darby has agreed to set aside 40 acres (16.18 hectare) on Pulau Carey, Selangor to build 400 houses for residents there, most of whom are Indians.

In a statement here today, Palanivel, who is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said Najib had told him the houses would be sold at cost price while the housing area would also comprise a tadika, a temple and complete with other infrastructure.

“This was to resolve the long standing problem of the people there,” he said.

Palanivel said the Prime Minister had requested him to coordinate with the Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby Datuk Bakke Salleh to work that out.

“But Sime Darby brought out another proposal that is to build houses at a different locality in Kampong Sedu near Banting. The locality has good infrastructure and connectivity.

“But the Carey islanders only wanted to stay on Carey Island because they had stayed there for most of their life,” said Palanivel.

Palanivel said they would stick to the original decision of the Prime Minister to build houses on Carey Island for the 400 families at cost price.
